The roadside barriers along Narrow Neck, Katoomba, required replacement due to wear and reduced structural integrity. Given the site’s environmental sensitivity, traffic constraints, and safety considerations, the project needed a carefully planned approach, including road closures, certified traffic management, and compliance with Australian safety standards.
Solve Civil developed a comprehensive project management plan that included traffic and pedestrian management, environmental protection measures, and compliance with AS/NZS 3845 and RMS R132 standards. The existing guardrails and posts were removed and replaced with new galvanized W-beam barriers, posts, and terminals. Environmental controls such as silt fencing, spill kits, and fauna protection measures were implemented to minimize impact. Additionally, all waste materials were documented and recycled where possible.
The project was completed efficiently within the planned 2-3 day timeframe, ensuring minimal disruption. The new roadside barriers provide enhanced safety and longevity, meeting regulatory standards and improving the structural integrity of the road infrastructure. The work was carried out with minimal environmental impact, maintaining the integrity of the surrounding area.
