Located in the remote central-western area of New South Wales near Coonamble, the Mt Magometon Quarry has been operating for almost 60 years quarrying and
processing hard rock, road base, sealing aggregates and crusher dust servicing the RMS, local councils, farmers & earthmoving contractors in the greater local area.
Approximately 80 000T of material is produced annually from the operation that is wholly owned and operated by the Coonamble Shire Council.
The crushing plant is constructed on the side of the incline adjacent to the quarrying area. On each side of the incoming crushing hopper large 5500mm high “wing”
retaining walls were originally built out of vertical hardwood sleepers & steel I beams. The timber sleepers had rotted away threatening the structural integrity of
the wall. This enabled the soil behind to start to fall in and created a safety hazard leading to the NSW Mines Department to issue an improvement order to have
the retaining walls replaced.
Solve Civil worked with the Coonamble Shire Council and our consulting engineers Barnson Engineering to install new steel & concrete retaining walls in the front of
the existing failed retaining walls. The job was in a difficult & challenging environment and required special attention to specific details due to the fact this was a
working mine site and governed by the additional requirements of the NSW Mines Act.
