The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden relies entirely on a network of storage tanks and dams for irrigation, washing, and potable water supply, as it has no mains water connection. A critical underground water tank, serving the main visitor area, conference rooms, and restaurant, developed structural issues, with its roof becoming defective and at risk of collapsing. This posed a serious threat to water availability and safety at the garden.
Solve Civil was engaged to excavate and open the tank, carefully removing the old defective lid while ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding landscape. Our team then extended and relined the structure, formed up and poured a new reinforced concrete roof, and applied waterproofing to enhance its structural integrity. Additional works included upgrading electrical controls, installing new pipework, and fitting a modern pump system to improve water management efficiency.
The refurbished underground tank now provides a reliable and secure water source for the garden’s operations, ensuring continued support for visitors and staff. Solve Civil’s work not only restored the tank’s functionality but also increased its capacity and long-term durability, reinforcing the garden’s self-sufficient water infrastructure.
