Jenolan Caves Road Side Wood Barrier Works

The Challenge

The upper roadway near Jelnolan Caves House required new handrailing to enhance safety for pedestrians while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the surrounding environment. The project needed to comply with RMS specifications and balance durability, functionality, and visual appeal. Multiple design options were considered to align with both safety standards and the heritage character of the Blue Mountains National Park.

Our Solution

Solve Civil provided nine handrailing options, including fabricated pipe-style vertical railings, RMS-compliant flat bar and round bar vertical handrails, aesthetic timber safety barriers with handrails, and standard two-rail piping systems. Each option was designed for structural integrity, longevity, and seamless integration with the surrounding landscape. The selected design was galvanized and powder-coated for durability, with an option for a timber crash barrier style to maintain a natural aesthetic.

The Result

The newly installed handrailing improved pedestrian safety while preserving the visual appeal of the area. The solution met all regulatory requirements and blended well with the natural and built environments. The project was completed efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to visitors and maintaining the integrity of the historic site.
