Ferrero Australia – Bunding & Stormwater Containment Works
Ferrero Australia is the well-known international food manufacturer producing familiar confectionery brand names such Tic Tacs, Nutella, Ferrero Rocher etc. They have a substantial manufacturing facility based in Lithgow, NSW.
Ferrero’s environmental audits identified a risk of contamination of the local waterways should there be a spill during liquid transfer from deliveries by bulk tanker trucks on their outdoors loading dock.
Solve Environmental worked with Ferrero to minimise the risk of spillage by installing bunding to create a bunted area, disconnecting the direct stormwater flows, installing a stormwater pumping pit and pumps that are controlled by state of the art contaminant sensors and are interlocked with the liquid transfer process. The system is now fully automated and as has substantially negated any significant risk of offsite contamination should a spill occur during liquid transfer or internal tank rupture.
- Survey area and calculate capacity of bunded area required to confirm to Australian Standards
- liaise with liquid transport organizations to ascertain expected volume deliveries
- Liaise with Environmental Protection Authority & Local Council
- Cut existing concrete and install trafficable roll over type bunding and finish in safety yellow non-slip coating
- Cut concrete and install stormwater pumping system, dowel and reinstate concrete over
- Interlock stormwater pumping system with electronic fluid transfer/loading system
- Installation of oil/water monitoring system to stormwater outflows
- Test and monitor
