Blue Mountains City Council – Carpark – Retaining Wall Remediation & Replacement
Located on the western fringes of the Greater Sydney Area, the Blue Mountains City Council is one of only 2 cities in the world that is surrounded by a declared World Heritage National Park.
Employing over 500 staff from its headquarters in Katoomba, the Council is a beacon of environmental responsibility and takes its guardianship of the spectacular Blue Mountains area very seriously.
Staff carparking is provided adjacent to the Administration building in a tiered/multi-level configuration following the natural ground contours. One of the original retaining walls that had been built in the 1970’s had failed, significantly leaning and cracking away from an adjacent buttress.
Solve Civil worked with the Blue Mountains City Council to remove and replace the wall and to plan the works around staff movements, also taking environmental considerations into account. As the carparking is extremely limited it was important to the council for the smallest work footprint to be used and that the project was completed in the shortest time possible.
