Bridge Refurbishment at Sydney Olympic Park

The Challenge

The two bridges at Sydney Olympic Park had rotting wood panels that needed replacement to ensure both safety and durability. The project required extensive environmental sensitivity, as the bridges were located above a sensitive ecosystem. The task was to refurbish the bridges while ensuring minimal disruption to the environment and complying with Australian Standards for structural integrity.

Our Solution

Solve Civil replaced nearly 1,000sqm of rotting wood panels with Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) for enhanced durability. Safety nets were installed underneath both bridges to protect the ecosystem from potential debris. We also rewired the lighting to improve visibility and security, while repainting the structures to restore their appearance. The bridges were reinforced to meet AS 5100.2 standards, and special provisions for microbat habitats were made by working with environmental specialists to ensure compliance with conservation procedures.

The Result

The refurbishment project successfully enhanced the safety, aesthetic appearance, and structural integrity of the bridges. The installation of FRP panels and safety nets not only improved the durability of the bridges but also ensured the protection of the local wildlife and ecosystem. The project was completed on time and in full compliance with environmental protection and conservation standards, allowing the bridges to continue serving the public while protecting the surrounding natural habitat.
